BPKH Provides Hajj Pilgrims with Rp1.21 Trillion in Living Costs

Jakarta – BPKH conducted an auction process for the procurement of Saudia Arabia Riyal (SAR) bank notes in order to meet the living costs of Hajj pilgrims, which included an additional quota of 10 thousand pilgrims. As a result, Bank BRI became the agency that carried out the procurement and distribution of SAR to prospective Hajj pilgrims

The Hajj Organizing Fund (PIH) is available in rupiah. In order to be used during the Hajj, this currency must be converted into a foreign currency, namely, the Saudi Arabian Riyal (SAR). This year’s recipients of bank notes were the 214,000 pilgrims who were divided into various groups and departed in the period of July-August 2019. BPKH provided a living cost of SAR 1,500 for each pilgrim through 19 embarkations throughout Indonesia. The 19 embarkations were in Aceh, Medan, Padang, Batam, Palembang, Bengkulu, Lampung, Jakarta, Bekasi, Solo, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, Balikpapan, Lombok, Makasar, Gorontalo, Jambi and Riau. The total bank notes facilities that we provided for distribution to the pilgrims amounted to SAR 321 million or USD 85.6 million, which is valued at Rp1.21 trillion.

On Monday (24/6), at the Head Office of Bank BRI in Jakarta, the Hajj Fund Management Agency (BPKH) and PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) on a Work Package for the Provision of Saudi Arabian Riyal Bank Notes (SAR) for the Living Costs of the Regular Hajj Pligrims of 1440H/2019M. This signing was done by BPKH Executive Board Member Acep Riana Jayaprawira and Bank BRI Director of Institutional Relations Sis Apik Wijayanto and was witnessed by the BPKH Head Anggito Abimanyu and Bank BRI President Director Suprajarto.

Through BRI Money Changer outlets located at all embarkations, pilgrims who needed SAR were able to exchange SAR banknotes in fractions 1, 5, and 10. BRI also served money exchanges using a bundling system, with a nominal value of Rp500 thousand, Rp1 million, Rp5 million and Rp10 million using prevailing exchange rates.

Each pilgrim who was to depart this year received bank notes in the form of 2 pieces of SAR 500 denominations and 5 pieces of SAR 100 denominations. The period of work for providing Saudi Arabian Riyal (SAR) bank notes was 10 (ten) calendar days prior to the departure of the first batch and ended 1 (one) day after the departure of the last group in the departure phase of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.

For the sixth consecutive times, BRI won the the SAR procurement auction. This year, BRI was able to win the auction due to competitive prices and due to having the most available bank outlets in Indonesia.
